by

Locombia is a complex and dramatic story of a man who lives in New York City as an artist, falls in love with a Colombian woman, and makes her his wife. This woman is smart, free, and full of spunk, but she has her political activist side that shows throughout the performance. This story is about how J. Anthony, an American artist survives Bogota, a Colombian city full of culture, life, and poverty.

For those who aren’t familiar with poverty in third world countries, this theatrical performance will give you a great sense of what it is like. The actors are raw, full of emotion, and quite comedic at times. Not only is this American artist struggling being poor in America, but he also now has to stay in Colombia much longer than he anticipated due to an eye surgery he opted for, because it is much less expensive over there.

Throughout the performance there is Colombian music, dancing, and love. The story is compelling, intriguing, and inspiring. Parts of this story are funny, sad, and uplifting, in that you can’t help but connect with the characters. Even if you watch the performance and know nothing about life in Colombia or Bogota, you feel a kinship with the characters, almost as if for a second or two, you experience the story for yourself. It is truly a very moving performance.
