Ten years ago the face of New York culinary delights transformed when Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Phil Suarez opened Spice Market in the Meatpacking District. Walking through the doors, visitors are taken away from the cobble stone streets and hustle and bustle of New York and transposed to the enticing world of Asian decor and cuisine. In honor of the tenth anniversary, Suarez and Vongericten invited some of their close friends and supporters to celebrate the accomplishment with cocktails, food and music.

Chef Anthony Ricco described the food samples as an homage of their past and current offerings. “Offering a great menu with old classics and new classics to show where we came from and where we are today,” he stated. Prior to opening Spice Market the chefs toured Southeast Asia and tried different types of food to discover what to put on their menu.

While the beats of Dogus Cabakcor, resident DJ for W Hotels, echoed throughout the bi-level restaurant, people enjoyed  complimentary cocktails. Selecting from the Ginger Margarita, Whiskey Passion Fizz or Passion Fruit Sangria, all the drinks had a twist that made it unique to Spice Market. Guests also had the choice of wine and Tiger Lager, an exotic beer imported from Singapore.

“We saw potential in the neighborhood and took a shot,” Suarez said pertaining to the location. He explained that they wanted to capture the true feel of Southeast Asia, and imported many authentic pieces from the area. The bar was imported from Malaysia and the hut that welcomes all the visitors was taken from the front of a house in India.

“Ten years ago Spice Market transformed this neighborhood into something special,” Chef Ricco said. Suarez and Jean-Georges were grateful for all the success that Spice Market has received and look forward to continue to impress present and future visitors. “We look forward to many more years here,” stated Suarez.

As guests left the event they received gift bags filled with Asian delicacies and an Orange Card that offers exclusive benefits at Culinary Concepts locations throughout the world. The city has an endless selection of restaurants, but the ones that last are the ones that bring the dinning experience to the next level. Spice Market not only serves delicious food but also brings each visitor on a joinery to Southeast Asia.

Spice Market is located at 403 West 13th Street.
