Vive la France this Bastille Day with Financier Patisserie

Don’t pack away your red-white-and-blue quite yet: July brings another reason to get patriotic… if you’re French, that is.

Monday, July 14th is Bastille Day – and in honor of the Gallic holiday Financier Patisserie is rolling out a tricolor confection for the week that will have you singing La Marseillaise. La Coupe Fruit Route d’Eté is a parfait layered with sponge cake, raspberry marmalade, vanilla bavarois cream and blueberry compote, topped with fresh blueberries and a red, white and blue decorated chocolate square ($3.50).

First a favorite dessert Financier conceived for catering functions, the coupe became the patisserie’s latest offering after staff fell in love with it. While the dessert is no health food, it’s definitely lighter than a pastry and as easy to devour as a scoop of ice cream, evoking summery afternoons and impromptu picnics.

If it’s all a bit too French for you, the mini chain is also celebrating National S’Mores Day on Sunday August 10th by rolling out a s’mores version of its famous macaroon. The S’mores Macaron Guimauve comprises chocolate and graham cracker macaroon shells filled with marshmallow meringue and will be available from Monday, August 4th ($2.75 for a large cookie). No campfire required.

Founded in 2002 on FiDi’s Stone Street, Financier now has 10 locations from downtown to midtown (thanks – in part – to its free financier with every coffee). All its goodies are handmade in Sunset Park, Brooklyn (there’s even a temperature-controlled croissant room. Oh, yes.), and its coffee is roasted in the coffee corridor that is nearby Gowanus.

If you’re escaping the city this summer (which, let’s face it, we all should), check out Financier’s Hamptons summer pop-up at The Mill Shops in Water Mill (760 Montauk Hwy). Then pack up your basket, grab a bicycle and pretend you’re on the Riviera. We won’t judge.

Twisted Talk: What’s your favorite French pastry? What are your plans for Bastille Day? Discuss below!
