Nolcha Fashion Week Ones to Watch

by

Nolcha Fashion Week is a great place to discover new and emerging designers during New York Fashion Week. In addition to Katty Xiomara’s show, we also attended Nolcha’s ‘Ones to Watch’ collective show. The runway included the brands Monstruosité, B’Venaj Designs, Gregory Apparel, Oiselle, JBurgos, and Charles & Ron. At the end of the runway show, the second annual Project Subway took place, where up and coming designers were challenged to create designs inspired by vegetables found in Subway restaurants. Check out some of our favorite looks from our favorite designers that presented at the show.

B’Venaj had a bright, fun and playful runway presentation. Vanessa Teye, the designer behind the brand, has a feminine and eclectic style, mixing African prints with western fabrics, giving her clothing both a vintage and modern feel. The collection featured a lot of bold colors and prints that we loved, and played with both long and short hemlines, creating sexy, yet sophisticated looks.

Charles & Ron, both self-taught designers, have infused Charles’ Maltese culture into their designs, creating a feminine and Mediterranean collection of clothing. Their collection showcased unique prints and fun and flirty silhouettes.

Monstruosité is a high fashion millinery brand, created by Dolly Donshey. The designer studied hat making under Jan Wutkowski and has had her creations worn by famous celebrities. The brand brings theatrical elements into its hats, with a big attention to detail. The runway show featured edgy, intriguing and beautiful designs, all very different from one another, yet entertaining to see.

Taking a different path than your typical runway shows, Oiselle‘s models were fit and fierce. Oiselle creates athletic apparel for women that is not only functional, but fashionable, as well. Created by Sally Bergesen, the brand featured some inspiring and unique looks for your everyday athlete. We loved the buff women walking down the runway, as well as their duds!

After the collective runway show, whimsical designs took the stage for Project Subway. Like judges Bella Thorne, Johnny Wujek, Nastia Liukin and Russel Westbrook, our favorite look was the onion inspired dress by Veritee Hill, who was picked as the winner.

Twisted Talk: Which of these designers do you like the best? What do you think of Project Subway’s winning look? Discuss below!
