United Solo Theatre has done it again. Spitting in the Face of the Devil, written and performed by Bob Brader, was originally performed September 25th to a sold out show. A second show was added on November 9th for those that did not get to experience this emotional story the first time. An emotional and touching story, Bob Brader really got to the root of how our parents can shape the person that we become, but also the strength that some of us have inside of us to change and break what can be a cycle of pain.

Directed and developed by Suzanne Bachner, Spitting in the Face of the Devil tells us the story of the emotional, physical, and mental affect Bob Brader’s Dad had on him. Bob Brader gives us a view into his childhood and how he discovered that his ex-marine father was a pedophile.

Spitting in the Face of the Devil is truly an unforgettable story that really gets down to the core of what the human spirit is and how much it can withstand. Bob Brader was not only physically abused by his father, but also emotionally abused. At times his mother was able to shield him from the hurt, but not everyone was capable of standing up to the devil every time, including her. Finding out that his father is a pedophile gave Bob Brader the strength to stand up to the devil. He was no longer scared of the devil, but in fact had hatred for the things that the devil had done to the people that he loves. This show shows us the ups and downs that Brader had to go through before finally learning to love himself and understanding that the Devil was not able to hurt him anymore or dictate what he could and could not do.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the United Solo Theatre Festival, which runs from September 18th until November 23rd. This year, more than 130 productions will be presented at the famous Theatre Row, which is located at 410 West 42nd Street in Times Square.
