The Red Handkerchief and Other Poems

You know that moment when you pick up a good book and you are instantly drawn into the story and can’t shake off the feeling that the author is writing to you? When it comes to poetry, anyone can be a poet, but it truly takes someone really talented as a poet to pull at your heart strings and with just a few words, have you recalling events in your life that you haven’t thought of in a long time. How is this author/poet able to do that? Daniel Shapiro is able to do that with his words and has done it yet again with his latest publication, The Red Handkerchief and Other Poems.

In The Red Handkerchief and Other Poems, Daniel Shapiro touches on a lot of emotions, history, and finding one’s self. While the poems are based on his life and experiences, it makes one think about one’s own existence and one’s own true self. The best poets are those that make you really think about one’s existence and one can’t help but wonder how Mr. Shapiro makes it so easy to weave words together in such a way to touch the human spirit. In Disguise, Daniel Shapiro touches on becoming one’s own parents. As he studies his face he thinks about his father’s face and how much it has changed over the year. He then wonders what he will look like with the features that his dad now has. It’s the type of poetry that you will find throughout this collection, where Daniel Shapiro starts talking about his life, yet you finish by thinking about your own life.

If you haven’t heard of Daniel Shapiro or read any of his poetry collections I suggest you check them out. He is also the author of Child with a Swan’s Wings (2013), which along with The Red Handkerchief and Other Poems, is available through Amazon.
