A Night at Ivy Bar

by

Ivy Restaurant

A street sign that read $7 White Pomegranate Cosmopolitan for Happy Hour was enough to make me turn right into the door. My decision for a night at Ivy Bar & Grill was the right choice. As you step into the doors of this very chic restaurant, you can’t help but look around and notice the antique lighting, exposed brick walls, large wood tables, and lavender bar chairs. It’s simple yet stylish, with large opened windows exposing their decor to all of 8th Avenue.  Ivy is not like the other local bars and restaurants on the block. Across the street there was a dance class in session and while I sat there enjoying the Tuesday night breeze with my Cosmo, I was sucked into a trance inside this restaurant where I felt very at home and comfortable.

As the server came over to take my order, I snapped out of the daze and immediately ordered an appetizer. The Sweet and Spicy Calamari caught my eye and it was love at first bite. The calamari was perfectly crisped and topped with a sweet, fruity sauce. The peanut dipping sauce was where the spice was hiding and complimented this dish in a way that was almost playful. I felt like a child searching for the pieces with the most sauce and dipping each end of the calamari into the pea-nutty goodness. Next came the burger; I had heard great things about their burgers and I was next on the judging panel. Medium rare topped with potato chips, sriracha, pickles, and sour cream and onion sauce, in between a slightly grilled hamburger bun. It was spicier than I imagined it would be, but the Cosmo certainly helped ease the burn. The menu is very creative with items that would typically please every palate, and for the more adventurous eater, there are plenty of options.

Check out Ivy next time you are on 8th Avenue. They are new to the neighborhood, only opening in February of this year and have made a lasting impression on many diners, including myself. Pop in for a Cosmo or a draft beer and take in all that this restaurant has to offer, hopefully you will get a great window seat!

Ivy Bar and Grill is located at 944 8th Avenue.
