Celebrate Halloween Safely in the City, and Online

by

Halloween is spooky for different reasons that usual this year…namely, the pandemic. Fortunately, there are still some safe ways to celebrate, both locally here in New York, and virtually from the comfort of your home!

The wizard-approved spot, The Cauldron, has a couple of fun ways for you to spend Halloween this year. On Saturdays and Sundays you can partake in Pumpkin Carving, which is open to all ages and runs for 45 minutes. You will receive one pre-shelled pumpkin, carving tool, design options and a specialty HallowCream concoction (hot & spiced apple cider with cinnamon, orange, ginger beer, butterscotch syrup, and a butterscotch whipped cream). If pumpkins aren’t your thing, you can also attend their Supper & Spells Experience, which runs for over 2 hours! Start off with a prosecco welcome and whip up an Ectoplam shot and Doom molecular cocktail. An interactive food menu is available there, as well.

Do something a bit more tame, and very typical of a New Yorker with a Halloween brunch! Alfie’s Bar & Kitchen in Hell’s Kitchen is hosting a themed brunch on October 31st and November 1st from 11am-3pm. Diners who come in costume can snap a photo at the restaurant and tag them on social media for the chance to win a $100 gift certificate. Dine among their fun Halloween decor or outside amidst toasty heaters, on specials like pumpkin spiced pancakes, jerk chicken and cornmeal waffles and beach bod omelettes. Pair it with their bottomless boozy brunch for an added bonus.
Carvel is conjuring up a wicked treat this holiday in honor of one of Halloween’s most classic movies…Hocus Pocus. In honor of the best month of tv, namely, Freeform’s “31 Night of Halloween,” Carvel is serving fans a limited edition Hocus Pocus Shake, available through November 1st. The shake features Carvel’s signature vanilla soft serve, mixed with Oreo Cookie pieces and topped with whipped cream and Halloween sprinkles, and served in a limited edition cup. The Sanderson sisters would approve.

Join in on a fun and virtual Spooktacular Bingo for a good cause. Hosted by Peachez, the bingo event takes place on October 29th at 7pm via Zoom. Famed astrologer Adama Sesay will also be helping out Peachez for a fun evening. Best of all, the proceeds will go towards helpNYC.

Head on over to the newly reopened Sugar Factory (now on the Upper West Side), just in time to try some of their spooky specials for Halloween. Choose between the Monster Mash Insane Milkshake (vanilla milkshake topped with whipped cream, orange chocolate drizzle, sour gummy worms, gummy centipedes, Oreo crumbs, a Sugar Daddy and half a Hershey’s Chocolate Bar) or the Toxic Zombie Goblet (Voli Vodka, Strawberry Pucker, pineapple juice, sweet & sour mix, pineapple syrup, strawberry syrup, strawberry puree and topped with gummy body parts and red licorice laces) — or try them both!!

A freakishly good lunchtime treat? That’s what Wolfnights is serving up on Halloween and November 1st only. The gourmet wrap spot is featuring a Full Moon Wrap, comprised of grilled steak, scrambled eggs, lamb bacon, marinated olives, edamame, sour cream, fried chicken skin, and barbecue pineapple sauce, wrapped up in gold-infused dough. Only 100 are going to be available each day so make sure to mark your calendars so you don’t miss out.

Artists from all over the country will be participating in Halloween-themed shows that run about 10 minutes each. The festival begins with a virtual costume party with DJ Maya Jasmin and will be emceed by Nate Betancourt. From Frankenstein to Freddy Krueger, you’re sure to enjoy the retelling of horror classics.

The American Museum of Natural History has a full day of family fun programming for Halloween and Día de los Muertos. Running from October 29 – November 1st, the immersive and interactive experience turns you into a ghost hunter. Cameras that are live streaming from the ship will allow you to explore, take notes, and interact with paranormal investigators right from home.
