A new sushi place opened up recently in Midtown to rave reviews by customers and press alike. Alex and Roman Volland are the masterminds behind Sushi Star, a convenient little store for fresh and unique items, like their popular dynamite roll. I had a chance to stop by to visit Sushi Star and enjoy the amazing taste of nigari and sashimi.

The restaurant itself is very spacious and features a palette of white and vibrant red colors. Once inside, you either have a chance to purchase made-to-order packages of sushi, sashimi and even vegan rolls. If you have certain preferences, you can also order your sushi at the counter with a multitude of options. For starters they have Miso Soup, Seaweed Salad, and Chicken Dumplings, among many other options. Or you can opt for a healthy salad, like the Vegetarian Salad, which consists of tofu, organic spring mix, roasted tomatoes, picked cucumber, bean sprouts and shaved carrot & radish. This mouth-watering salad is seasoned with fresh herbs and sesame vinaigrette. The restaurant also features a wide selection of noodles and teriyaki, as well as their popular sushi boxes and the classic rolls.

If you want to taste a little bit of everything, I would recommend that you get the Remix Box (12 pcs/$16.50). The Remix Box is comprised of three pieces of Tuna Avocado, three pieces of Spicy Salmon, three pieces of yellowtail scallion, salmon sushi, tuna sushi, and a red snapper sushi. My guest was courageous enough to try the Dynamite Roll (8 pieces/$13.95), which is a Spicy Tuna that consisted of crab meat, avocado, tobiko, and it was rolled in a chili soy paper. One of the most genius things that the owner did was include little bottles of soy sauce in a fish shape. Those little squeezable bottles were one of the highlights of dinner.
