Walking through the doors of Hammerstein Ballroom, people had one thing one their mind — how to create and inspire future generations about respect of cultural diversity. Tackling that issue during their annual gala, the We Are Family Foundation has become one of the most anticipated global charitable events.

Hosted by Fox 5’s Good Day New York dynamic duo, Greg Kelly and Roseanna Scotto, the gala honored three global citizens that share their mission and values. Music legend and Grammy Award winner, Chaka Khan, was selected as the 2015 recipient of the Humanitarian Award. Recognizing an individual that has helped improve the human condition throughout the world, the award highlights the Chaka Khan’s efforts through her self-titled foundation that helps at risk women and children.

The foundation also recognized the dedication and passion of Caryl M. Stern, who received the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Peacemaker Award for his work with UNICEF and promoting a peaceful society. Bill McDermott, recipient of the Visionary Award, was recognized for his philanthropy through the corporate environment.

“We are inspired by each of our 2015 honorees who show passion to their individual mission and continuous dedication to solving some of the biggest global issues facing our world,” Nile Rodgers, Founder & Chairman of the We Are Family Foundation, said. “My song, ‘We Are Family,’ embodies the spirit of our honorees and the We Are Family Foundation, which brings people together to celebrate our differences and share important ideas across borders to make a difference and inspire peace.”

During the gala there were live auctions, cocktails, food and amazing performers that had everyone dancing. Guests were treated with performances from We Are Family Foundation founder Nile Rodgers, Chaka Khan, Kathy Sledge and Grandmaster Melie Mel. The night was filled with bringing awareness to creating a global family of understanding and acceptance. As people left Hammerstein Ballroom, they felt that “we are family, I got all my sisters with me, we are family, get up everybody and sing!”
