Daybreaker: Morning’s Hottest Dance Party

New Yorkers love dance parties.  They dance in clubs, they dance in dive bars, they dance on Saturday afternoons after some day drinking, and at Brooklyn warehouse parties on Saturday nights.  Now we can add pre-work dance parties to the ever growing list of places New Yorkers enjoy getting their groove on.

Daybreaker is an international movement that has been around since 2009, and categorizes itself as a “morning movement that will start your day off unlike anything else.”  Having participated in the first ever New York City theme-week devoted to Daybreaker, we can 100% second that motion – this is an experience unlike any other.  Every day this week, Daybreaker kicked off another day at a different venue, featuring different DJ’s, breakfast treats, and positive vibes as each day’s ticket sales were donated to an environmental or social issue deemed worthy of contribution by the Daybreaker staff.

We spent a gloomy Tuesday morning at Gilded Lily in the Meatpacking District, and if you thought starting your Tuesday morning at a normally impossible to get into nightclub would be a little odd, you are not mistaken.

The day began with 6AM yoga (FYI – mats are NOT provided, and if you forget yours, you will take an hour long yoga class on a floor usually traversed by stilettos and droplets of vodka) and soothing house music to warm up your body. Immediately after the class ends, the bass drops, and you can grab yourself a bottle of ginger kombucha as you make your way onto the dance floor and let loose. Hint: bringing a friend crazy enough to wake up at 5AM for yoga and a dance party makes this whole experience an incredible way to perk up your week.

Twisted Talk: Have you been to any Daybreaker parties yet? What did you think of the experience? Discuss below!
