Dolling Up For the Nation’s Biggest Birthday Party

by

For some, dressing head to toe in red, white, and blue is a bit much, but everyone still want to look patriotically pretty. Well, you still can still show your star power with some of these easy and subtle (or not), makeup ideas!

A subtle smoked out blend:

While not necessarily a smokey eye, this great-looking blending achieves the same smokey effect throughout the lid.

How to create this look:

1) use a primer (optional) to ensure staying power, and dust on a white shimmery shadow such as White Frost by Mac Cosmetics ($15). You can use your fingers.

2) On the inner corners, lightly brush on a blue eyeshadow, such as Mac’s Winkle. Carry some of the blue shadow into about a third of the inner crease, making sure there is still a good portion of white showing. (Fingers are not recommended since it needs extra care in the crease–use an eyeshadow brush, or even a q-tip.)
3) Lastly, brush a red shadow, i.e; Daydreaming (also by Mac) on the outer corner, and a third into the crease. For a bit more drama wing it out a bit, and add mascara.
Optional: Add a thin bit of eyeliner to really make the look pop!
 Orange lips and thick lashes:

Products to use:
– An orange lipstick such as Inglot’s Lipstick 103 (click here)
Kiss Eyelashes (Availability: Walgreens, Walmart, and CVS stores nationwide)
I’m a huge fan of orange lipstick in the summer–it’s different from the same old red lipstick, and it compliments bronzed skin so well! But because you have that giant pop of color on the lips, it’s always best to go more natural on the eyes; so instead of breaking out the eyeliner, I’d pump up those lashes using falsies! My favorite lashes are KISS eyelashes. Before a night out, I always make sure to stock up on a pair or two at my nearest drugstore. They have a range of styles varying from natural and separated, to thick long and stunning!

Dramatic Eyeliner and a Nude lip:
Of course I have to go on both sides of the spectrum–following a look with dramatic lips and natural eyes, there has to be one with dramatic eyeliner and a nude lip. Personally I’m not a fan of red eyeliner (to each his own), so I selected a look using blue eyeliner. Depending on the shade of blue, it works well with most skin tones and brings out the eyes. The dots are optional.
Products to use:
– A blue eyeliner such as Urban Decays 24/7 Glide on pencil in Abyss (click here)
– A nude lipstick as as TooFaced’s La Creme Lipstick in Naughty Nude. (Click here)
How to create the Cat’s eye:
1. In front of a mirror look downwards and gently drag your eyeliner across the top lash line and slightly past the outer corner; for more drama, angle it out.
2. To create the winged effect, starting at the line you dragged out, work back towards your eye, creating a thinner line the closer you get to the inner outer corner.
3. Follow your natural shape and be sure to fill in any missed spots!
For the VERY BOLD:
This look is not for the faint of heart. You can truly show your stripes using this American Flag Lip Print by Violent Lips. It can be paired with subtle eyeliner as shown on the model, and is definitely a unique makeup piece. These bold appliques contain vitamins and a glossy finish, lasting up to 4-8 hours, So your star spangled puckers will last all throughout the night!
