Horse Trade Theater Group, in association with Gotham City Improv will be bringing the First Annual Down Under Improv Festival to New York City and audience members will have a chance to decide who will be the champion of the festival. The festival will run from August 21st until the 24th at Under St. Marks, located on 94 St. Marks Place between 1st Avenue and Avenue A.

Gotham City Improv is a theater, school, and community of comedic actors in New York City whose main goal it seems is to bring joy and laughter to New Yorkers. Some notable alumni’s include Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie, Legally Blonde, Best in Show) and Mike Price (Executive Producer, The Simpsons). Located at 115 MacDougal Street, they have classes and sketch shows once a week. For a full schedule you can visit www.gothamcityimprov.com. Horse Trade Theater Group is a theater development group that also works on bringing stimulating shows to downtown theater. They are very well known for receiving the 2011 New York Innovative Ellen Stewart Stewardship Award for their contribution to Off-Off-Broadway shows. You can visit www.horseTRADE.info to learn more about Horse Trade Theater Group.

Both Gotham City Improv and Horse Trade Theater Group have teamed up to bring this exciting festival to showcase the talent that New York City actors have. At the beginning of the festival, eighteen teams will enter and by the end, only one team will remain on top. The competition will be hosted by Rob Reese, who recently ran the Flatiron Scriptless Workshop Extension. The eighteen teams will be split up into 6 groups and will go head to head with 20 minute sets. On Sunday night’s final show the two top teams will go head to head for a 30 minute set and then it’s up to the audience to decide who will win the cash prize.

I’m very excited to see these teams duke it out to get to the top, and the best part of it is that it’s a guaranteed fun time. So if you have nothing to do and want to have fun with some friends, then make sure to buy tickets for the First Annual Down Under Improv Festival. Tickets are $7 and $12 for a double header. Since it seems that Saturday Night Live is cleaning house, they might just want to also check out this festival to pick up some of the comedians. Make sure you don’t miss it!

For more information on the festival and to buy tickets you can go to www.horseTRADE.info or call 212-868-4444.
