It’s that time of year again — the time when Patrón lovers gather to select the Patrón Margarita of the Year out of the top three finalists. The premier celebration featured music, passed hors d’oeuvres, shaken margaritas and an interactive experience that only Patrón can give.

Held in the beautiful area of Dumbo, Brooklyn, guests were treated upon arrival with boozy ice cream versions of the three finalists’ margarita creations, as well as the classic margarita, thanks to boozy ice cream makers, Tipsy Scoop. Each of the three finalist had booths set up where you were able to see them craft and shake up their artisan margarita to taste. Out of seven competitors, the voters picked three finalists — Jordan Corney of San Antonio, Rosie Ruiz of Los Angeles, and Stephen Halpin of Dallas. Alongside other media, it was our job to select the final winner.

Inspired by his Texas upbringing, Jordan Corney created the Rosa Picante Margarita. This spicy sweet cocktail was beautifully garnished with a red rose petal and a slice of hot pepper. Next, we made our way to the “smoky room,” where we got a taste of Stephen Halprin’s Smoked Mangonada. This sweet and smoky cocktail was titillating to your taste buds. The Re-Margarita was Rosie Ruiz’s creation and crafted with Patrón Silver and featured carbonated homemade orange-lime cordial.

After you tasted the delicious crafted cocktails the finalists created, guests were given the unique opportunity to craft their very own margarita. Equipped with a Patrón apron, guests were guided through the Patrón Margarita Lab. With a variety of Patrón Tequilas, fresh fruits and vegetables from the onsite Produce Market, and spices from the Spice Station, attendees were transformed into mixologists and able to create their perfect cocktail.

Now it was time to announce the winner. With much anticipation, John Paul DeJoria, Co-Founder of Patrón Tequila introduced the three finalists and announced that Jordan Corney and his spicy Rosa Picante Margarita took the grand prize as Patrón Margarita of The Year!
