This past weekend, thousands of people flocked to Citi Field to get their beer and bacon on. The second annual Bacon and Beer Classic in New York City brought nearly 9,000 guests to their two sold out Saturday tasting sessions.  The huge event took up multiple levels within the stadium, featuring over forty local restaurants and over fifty breweries.

Perfect for those who can’t get enough bacon in their lives, folks walking around in bacon-themed shirts, socks and even pig costumes were not a rarity, but in fact, a majority of the crowd on Saturday. The brunch session during the day featured delectable delicacies, including bacon-topped chocolate milk (surprisingly delicious), bacon jam, peanut butter and bacon burgers, and that’s just the beginning. Judges Liza De Guia, Adam Poch, Lisa Fernendes, Derrick Prince, David “The Rev” Cancio, James Tai, Herb Karlitz and Chef Plum comprised the judging panel for the brunch session, with Chef David DiBari and George Motz joining the panel for the evening session.

The judges tasted as much beer and bacon as they could get their hands on and were tasked with the hardest decision of the day…what were their favorites? During the brunch session, winning beers were from Abita Brewing, Southern Tier Brewery and Original Sin Hard Cider. The people’s choice winner went to Rudy’s Original Cheesecake Drops infused with bacon and the best savory dish went to Bar Bacon. Pig Guy NYC took home the crown for the best sweet dish for their bacon s’mores on a stick (our personal fave of the day, while best overall went to Sweet Chili for their pork-gasm.

The evening session’s winners include Pig Guy NYC again, Hard Times Sundaes for best savory dish, Route 66 Smokehouse for best overall and John’s of Times Square for best use of bacon.

In addition to all of the pig and beer you could handle, the festival also included photo ops and plenty of games, including giant Jenga, cornhole, and much more. Making its way through big cities around the country, the Bacon and Beer Classic is one day all carnivores are going to want to attend. Make sure to keep up to date with their tours to see when they will be coming to a city near you!
