The Fourth Restaurant: The New “It Place”

“Pure Class” are the words that come to mind when I think of The Fourth Restaurant. I recently had the chance to have dinner at the restaurant and I was very impressed with the overall service that we received. It was a very cozy and comfortable setting and the waiter was very attentive. Every time I stood up and went to the bathroom I came back and found my napkin folded again! Aside from The Fourth Restaurant, restaurateurs and co-owners Jo-Ann Makovitzky and Marco Moreira also own Tocqueville, 15 East, and Botequim which will open soon. While at the restaurant I had the chance to meet the charismatic Mr. Robert Nagle, Chef de Cuisine Jason Hall and Chef Marco Moreira.

Before going to the restaurant to have dinner I had a chance of taking a brief tour of the restaurant while I attended an event at Singl Lounge, and I fell in love with the unique centerpiece that The Fourth Restaurant has. It was created by Brinton Jaecks who suspended ten beds from the ceiling that are linked by wooden chains that he carved himself. Brinton actually learned how to carve chains in his grandfather’s studio, who was also a sculptor. What I really thought was amazing are the pictures that decorate the private red dining room at The Fourth Restaurant, where we had a chance to sit and eat dinner. These are portraits of waitresses that photographer James Salzano has met and has taken for his upcoming book. The portraits make the private dining room seem more like a home than anything else; it gives off a very laid back and familial vibe.

When I go to a restaurant the first thing a restaurant has to do to impress me is to serve some good alcohol, and boy did The Fourth serve some good alcohol! I started off with a Gin Rickey and it is by far the best Gin Rickey I have ever had. It was very strong and not watered down, just how I liked it. Each course was accompanied by a different wine, recommended by The Fourth’s sommelier Jhonel Faelnar who did an amazing job paring the different wines with the courses. As you can see from the pictures below, the food not only looks good, but it tastes even better. The Fourth also has a coffee bar and café and that’s where we got the amazing cappuccino that we drank.

The Fourth Restaurant also has an al fresco dining space, aside from the private dining room, that is perfect for guests to dine at during the summer. I really like the fact that a lot of the ingredients that the restaurant uses in their dishes are taken from the Union Square market that is just around the corner. Another plus about the space in general is that you have a restaurant, The Fourth; a lounge, Singl Lounge; and the bar all in the same space. So anytime that anyone needs some time to relax, you can quickly grab an exquisite meal at The Fourth, pop on over to the bar and relax at Singl Lounge.
