For the last 10 years, John DeLucie has nabbed the accolade of one of New York City’s most popular chefs. From his days as founding partner of The Waverly Inn to his newest venture The Lion, he’s been the culinary expert of choice for the city’s top-notch glitterati.

DeLucie’s prowess was on show one evening last week at The Lion’s Fifth Year Anniversary party—a night of cocktails, live jazz and bites from the new menu by chef de cuisine Justin Neubeck.

As part of the festivities, staff at The Lion, an upscale Village hot spot for frequenters of Page Six, served up trays of hors d’oeuvres amongst bubbling flutes of Laurent Perrier champagne.

Canape highlights included The Lion Burger sliders—topped with a blend of tomato confit, pork belly and caramelized onion; tuna tartare with preserved chili, mint and buckwheat tuile and arancini made from what looked like a spring blend of vegetable risotto, while the piece de resistance was an elaborately presented salt-baked tilefish with a salsa verde.

Known for its upscale, yet homey American fare, The Lion still impresses, whether it’s a date, client or friend from out of town you’re looking to wow. It has the air of a place that’s been open for decades, and it’s likely it’ll be around for a few more anniversaries to come.
