The Wines of Veneto at Eataly

Eataly, the iconic landmark for the best Italian food, wine, and classes in New York City, recently held a three course lunch and wine pairing with the wines of Veneto, Italy. Veneto is one of the most important wine regions in Italy, as it is where you will find Prosecco, Soave, and Valpolicella. These wines are bold and beautiful, very much like the Italian culture. Held at La Scoula, on 23rd street and 5th Avenue was a wonderful wine tasting with three separate courses. The first course was a Fritto Misto, which consisted of delicious fried Striped Sea Bass, Shrimp, Fennell, and Sweet Potato. This was beautiful with the Prosecco’s served, as sparkling wines go so well with fatty dishes.

Next came one of the best wines in the tasting with a delicious Risotto dish. The Zenato Lugana DOC was spectacular! It is fruit forward, full of ripe yellow apple and citrus, and went so perfectly with the simple, creamy, risotto. If you love high acid wines, but aren’t into too many Pinot Grigio’s, then try the Lugana; you will absolutely love it!

Last came the third course, which was Chicken Breast wrapped in Prosciutto over Chicken Liver Polenta; it was absolutely stunning. Paired with this dish were a Soave DOC and Cesari Valpolicella. Both wines were gorgeous with the dish, as the Soave was bright, clean, and fruit forward, while the Valpolicella was full of cherry, black pepper, and some sweet baking spice.

The wines of Veneto are fantastic, mostly moderately priced, and full of style and quality. Be sure to stop by Eataly and try some of these fantastic wines or learn more about them here!
