What to Expect at Savor: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience

by

Who likes a good ol’ Brooklyn brew? If the answer to that question is YES, I Do! then be sure to check them out the Brooklyn Brewery on N 11th street in Brooklyn, NY. Founded in 1988, this brewery produces award winning beer year round, that not only tastes great, but pairs even better with food.  Not sure that’s true? No problem, you can attend events where they promote their beer and select food pairings.

Recently, Dogfish Head Founder Sam Calagione and Brooklyn Brewery founder Steve Hindy teamed up for a preview of Savor, the largest craft beer and food experience featuring more than 60 small brewers and their boutique beers. It’s coming to NYC for the first time and the public can attend this two day event on June 14th and 15th at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Pavilion. SAVOR will feature a large selection of beers from each brewery paired with foods chosen by Chef Adam Dulye, co-owner and Chef of San Francisco’s “The Monk’s Kettle,” and James Beard Award semi-finalist Abbot’s Cellar. The event is sponsored by the Brewers Association and the Boulder, a Colorado-based trade association representing America’s independent craft brewers, while giving attendees a one of a kind experience.Dogfish Head

At the preview event, guests at the Brooklyn Brewery were able to try some of the beers and “lite bites” or pairings that the attendees at the event will be tempted with. A few of the goodies sampled were from Murray’s Cheese Shop in Greenwich Village, featuring, Across The Pond washed rind cheese with Brooklyn’s Wild 1; an experimental beer made with a wild yeast, a semi-firm sheep/cow blend with Brooklyn Brown Ale. The Jasper Hill Bayley Blue with Brooklyn Black Ops Beer was not only a great pairing, but this “beginner blue” can very well change the mind of a non-blue cheese fan any day!

There was also a selection of Fresh Chevre and Choptank Sweets Oysters with Brooklyn Sorachi Ace Beer, a delicious and savory pairing. If you are a pickle person then you will love Sam Calagione’s Positive Contact brew paired with Brooklyn Brine Hop Pickles; and last but not least, Green & Black’s Organic Chocolate paired with Sixty-One Beer, an interesting and enticing pairing.

Brooklyn Brewery lovers, and those new to craft beer, we hope to see you at Savor, but if you can’t make it, do not worry as the Brewery has group tours as well as public and private events. Definitely an experience worth exploring, you’ll be amazed at these unique and wonderful brews.
