A fun, quirky read, Death by Chaos, by Renaii West, centers on four teens who meet as freshman year roommates and follow their journeys through their 20-year college reunion. The four roommates, each with their own self-proclaimed amazing qualities, deem themselves as the “goddesses” of the campus, each unique in her own right.
The story follows their college trajectories, but near the end of their senior year, a wealthy classmate is found dead and suspicion falls on one of the goddesses. Over the course of the investigation, and the subsequent years, one of the four goes missing, another knows more than she can share, and the women’s once solid friendships become strained.
While the case remains unsolved and the three remaining goddesses reunite for their upcoming reunion, the past won’t seem to stay buried and one of the friends goes to great lengths to try to get to the bottom of things.
Death by Chaos is a short, fast-paced read. While it isn’t the most well-written novel you will read, it is entertaining. The characters are a little one note, but like most thrillers, it’s more about getting to the bottom of the story rather than enjoying exquisite literature. If you’re looking for an easy beach read this summer, you might find yourself entertained by this one.
