The Plaza Hotel has decided to immortalize one of its most iconic guests. Eloise; Kay Thompson’s timeless character will be given an enduring place within the hotel through a series of limited edition prints and commemorative art pieces, created by Hilary Knight. Knight’s famous illustrations graced the pages of Eloise’s life nearly 60 years ago. The character who Thompson created as an extension of herself, had a whimsy, breathless speech, that was famous among New Yorkers and world travelers alike since its publishing in 1955. The spirit of The Plaza has been recanted in a contemporary spirit, sure to delight.
To celebrate this event, The Plaza will launch this special collaboration with a birthday tea celebration on November 4, hosted by Hilary Knight himself. The tea party will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, in The Palm Court. Guests will enjoy tea, treats, and a book signing with Hilary Knight’s 50-year-old Eloise portrait adorning the space. The event will mark an important anniversary in child literature and each child at the party will receive a rawther mahvelous gift bag. To further commemorate Eloise, The Plaza will release six holiday inspired prints. The prints will include Valentine’s Day, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, all beautifully designed. The Eloise enthusiasts that purchase all six prints will also receive a special seventh edition print, showcasing Eloise’s birthday. Each holiday series will be released as 100 prints at a price of $250 each. The Plaza, along with Hilary Knight, plan on releasing an Eloise print series for 2014 and 2015, as well. These series will include Eloise in her travelers, as well as her mischievous adventures throughout the hotel. This is a opportunity an Eloise fanatic cannot afford to miss out on.
