Walking down 7th Street you will come across a cozy, rustic restaurant and be compelled to step inside. Giano, a divine Italian restaurant in the East Village, has withstood the test of time in New York City, going strong after five years on the town.

Their beautiful bar, made of Sicilian sea salt and resin, offers a great selection of global wines, with emphasis on Italy, as well as Italian beers. The red brick walls, lit candles and rustic wood floors make this spot a must for date night. Come summertime, Giano also has a lovely seasonal garden out back, where customers can dine and enjoy the sun.

And while the romantic atmosphere is wonderful, the food and service is outstanding. Owners Matteo Niccoli and Paolo Rossi make an amazing team; the former mans the kitchen while the latter hosts the clientele and dishes out wine recommendations. Everything on their menu is unique in its own right — from the outstanding Asparagi Gratinati comprised of asparagus wrapped in speck and fontina cheese, drizzled with balsamic vinegar reduction, to the unparalleled Gnocchi ai 4 Formaggi, the hands down best gnocchi I’ve ever had.

Every dish on the menu, whether is be an appetizer, pasta, or entree, is sure to make your mouth water. Be sure to save room for dessert though, however hard it may be. Their Tiramisu is not only delicious, but also very light and fluffy, so it won’t send you over the edge. Their Cappuccino is not what you might think — although it may look like your typical coffee, underneath the cinnamon and coffee foam lies a combination of ricotta, coffee gelato and wafer cookies, creating another top notch dessert.

Additionally, Giano offers a week night prix fixe menu from 5:30pm-7pm, which includes an appetizer and main course for $21.95. Grab a date and wow them at Giano!

Giano is located at 126 E. 7th Street.
