Last week, Manhattan with a Twist had the opportunity to get a sneak peek at Shauns 2014 Spring/Summer eyewear collection. Wearing glasses or shades shouldn’t have to be dull, and with this new collection it will be anything but. What we love so much about Shauns is their vast array of shapes and styles and exciting colors. As with all of Shauns’ previous collections, this newest one features handmade eyewear utilizing the finest materials, including Carl Zeiss lenses.
The vast collection is clever and thoughtful, drawing on inspiration from past collections and introducing new shapes. This year, in addition to their stylish sunglasses, Shauns is introducing their optical collection for the first time. Also, all of the brand’s glasses raise awareness for the ‘Give Sight’ program, which sponsors an eye exam and pair of glasses for someone in the developing world for each pair sold.
The collection features two new shapes — the Moray and the Argyll — both of which are a fine combination of soft and edgy. The new shapes are designed to appeal to both men and women, making shopping for glasses that much easier. While the Moray has a strong geometric shape and thick acetate front, the Argyll displays both an acetate front and a steel and enamel temple, showcasing multiple textures. With the addition of these new shapes, the collection is a perfect balance between rectangle, round, and cat eye shapes — all sophisticated and versatile.
In addition to the new shapes, all colors of the collection really show how fun this line is. The most popular colors from past collections are present, including military green and granite, while new players enter the scene, such as petrified wood and mixes of colors. In fact, you could say that their unique and playful colors are one of the best qualities of the Shauns brand.
Last but not least, the brand’s attention to detail is astounding. They have very discrete branding in the collection, as evidenced by the hidden Braille ‘S’ that can be found inside the hinge lining, only visible when the glasses are not being worn. This small, extra detail is just another amusing and witty characteristic of Shauns.
The Shauns Spring/Summer 2014 collection ranges in price from $250-$350 and will be available in March 2014 at select Neiman Marcus locations and online.
