Rainn’s First (and maybe ONLY) Virtual Holiday Special

by

The holiday season is here, and my favorite part of the season is giving back! So much of the arts have been negatively affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. So to raise money for The Acting Company, a virtual benefit was held last week. Founded in 1972, the legendary, award-winning company has given two generations of talented actors the opportunity to master their acting craft.

Hosted by Emmy-nominated actor Rainn Wilson from the hit comedy, The Office, the benefit was brilliantly set up as a variety show. Directed by John Rando, the performances included songs, skits, and poem readings that featured alumni and friends of the company. The star-studded fundraiser streamed live on December 17th and was free for all to enjoy. All proceeds from the show benefit the 2021-2022 national tour of Twelfth Night directed by Kent Gash and The Three Musketeers directed by Carl Cofield.

The fundraiser variety show featured holiday poems read by Angela Lansbury and Lorraine Toussaint, a trip down memory lane with Jesse L. Martin, a beautiful song from Bernadette Peters, a funny skit from Sara Mearns and so much more. We’ve all been going through such a rough time during these last ten months. And let’s face it, it’s been talented actors, brilliant television shows, and amazing movies that have been helping us get through these trying times. The virtual holiday benefit allowed us to support the industry that brings us so much joy and laughter. Not to worry if you missed the show, you can still donate to The Acting Company here.
