Smorgasburg – Brooklyn’s Festive Food Festival

by

Smorgasburg

Smorgasburg’s concept is simple and straightforward. People love to eat. Smorgasburg is an outdoor food festival hosting over seventy purveyors of food, selling everything from steaming hot ramen, delicate mini cupcakes, juicy slabs of barbeque and the quintessential Mexican tacos.

Fans of this annual event are strict loyalists no matter what the circumstances. This means waiting in long lines for a brisket sandwich or shaved ice with drizzled flavored syrup. This also means braving the weather no matter how hot or cool it may get. Rain or shine, Smorgasburg operates every Saturday in Williamsburg on an abandoned lot adjacent to the East River State Park. Everything from savory to sweet is offered here, though that doesn’t necessarily mean all is equally delicious.

El Gato Nachos

Ambitious and daring foodies can sample duck confit nachos from El Gato Nacho, Asian inspired hot dogs from aptly named Asia Dog or foie-gras beignets with Nutella powder from Deji. For more traditional palettes, choose the smoky, tender brisket sandwich from Mighty Quinn’s BBQ, a grilled cheese sandwich from Milk Truck or a satisfying lobster roll from Red Hook Lobster.

For dessert, visitors can choose from a variety of options, as well. Perhaps a scoop of ice cream from Blue Marble Ice Cream to cool off, a sumptuous doughnut (try the hibiscus or blood orange) from Brooklyn based Dough or shaved iced from People’s Pops (packaged popsicles are also sold).

Smorgasburg Williamsburg is open every Saturday from 11AM until 6PM, running until November 23, 2013. There is another Smorgasburg event held in DUMBO, which operates every Sunday from 11AM until 5PM running until November 24, 2013.
